BIOME — Biomes are defined as biotic community of geographical extent
characterized by distinctiveness in the life forms of the important climax species. (FEClement and VE Shelford). Biomes are further defined by Christopherson as a large stable eco -system characterized by specific plant and animal communities. On the
basis of various plant species, the biomes may classify in 6 categories as Forest,Savana grassland, shrubland, desert, and tundra.

8.Explain the Characteristics Ecological Succession? Discuss Ecosystem stability?  What is Succession?

ANS :-When biotic communities of plants and animals develop in natural and undisturbed  setting, they have tendency to change in a particular direction. Each successive  community of species modify the physical environment in such a way that is suitable  for establishment of later communities of species. Thus, the term succession is  applied to the sequence of changes that occur in a biotic community as it develops  on a given site. Thus, ecological succession refers to the natural and progressive  process by which the structure and species composition of an ecosystem change  over time until a stable climax community develops. Ecosystem stability, on the other  hand, describes the ability of that system to resist disturbances and return to  equilibrium after disruptions.
